OUGD504: Design for print, Kendal College research

I am designing my book for Kendal College, which I previously attended, so I am familiar with the printing methods which are available.

I emailed my old tutor Sorrel to get an understanding of who was studying in her class, and what they would be going to university to study.

I also handed a survey out to get an idea of who would use a print book if available.

Questionnaire

Would making a print book be appropriate?

From the results It has confirmed my decision to produce a print book for the college. I believe it is going to benefit the students. A lot of students are going to study Graphic Design at university so I believe it will definitely help improve their knowledge.

What to do now?

I need to design my book so it's going to be interesting but informative. I believe having an even spread of text and image will provide a decent amount of information but will keep the students reading. I want to include a lot of colour and typography in my book as I want people to remember what they've just read.

From studying at Kendal College there were three main printing methods which we practiced. These were, screen printing, acid etching and lino printing. I'm definitely going to include these three processes in my book because these printing methods are still methods which are going to be beneficial at university. I also believe I should add extra methods, ones which I believe are worth knowing. Finishing processes are something which I need to consider.
