OUGD504: Design for print; Evolutionprint

Jason Leggat from Evolution print came in to give us a little insight into the service they provide.

Evolution print

Litho - Digital - Web

3 paper types; Gloss, silk and coated.

Gloss and silk produce sharper images.

Uncoated is usually used for Graphic Design, it has a thick feel.

With the Litho printing it's extremely fast, 80,000 leaflets can be cut and boxed in an hour.

Litho always comes out better quality.

With digital printing the inks are powder based.

With litho the inks are vegetable oil based.

With digital you are charged per sheet (click charge)

10p 1 side 1 colour

30p full colour

Make ready = 60 quid

1 plate = 100 quid

Mistakes when preparing art boards:

- Don't use bleed
- You should send thing individually, not 3 small prints stuffed onto one page
- Send as PDF & original format if tweaks are needed.
- Don't use spot colours, use CMYK.
- Any coats, spot colours, foil - over print it.
- 8 - 16 - 32's are the booklet sizes (in pages)

Think about the stock before printing  ink all over it - will the stock benefit.

Working turn (cheaper) - turn the sheet when printing

Sheet turn - 8 plates not four
