So after reviewing the feedback from the crit I've decided on a new concept for design print. Here's some of the feedback I received:
> Target audience be more specific?
> Tone of voice? Humour?
> Consider maybe more than two posters?
> Posters need to be aesthetically engaging to capture audience attention. Balance type and image.
> Will all your content fit onto A2 and will it be legible from a distance
> Consider both elements of the poster - are there over laps?
> People who do not like print - try and engage them?
> Use tone of voice to make the information load easy to understand and take in.
> Look for a demographic for graphic design students?
> Refine audience
Refining my audience was a point which cropped up quite often, also I was told to try and maybe incorporate humour into my design as this could engage the younger age.
I thought about my design and realised it'd be difficult to fit so much information onto two posters, and as posters are something which are quickly scanned and not read in-depth I decided that I'd design a guide.
I believe having a book or something physical in your hand to read will engage the audience a lot more.
My previous audience was 16 - 20 year olds studying art and design in sixth form and college. I understood that this was too broad so I looked into who specifically I could design for. I decided that I would design a print guide specifically for my old college in Kendal, as they lacked the study of print and graphic design in their art and design foundation.
Here is the concept breakdown:
I want to design a print guide for my previous college in Kendal. After studying there for a year and having six lads in my class that have gone to uni to study graphic design, I realised there was no real teaching of graphic design.
I am now aware that the college over the past two years has had a lot of students wanting to go to university to study graphic design. As the course has no official study on graphic design individually I believe creating a print guide for the college would help the students studying now, and students to come to understand the importance and the relevance of designing for print in their studies.
Graphic design students would be the preferred audience but I would be designing for the Art and Design Foundation classes as a whole, as I believe print is important in all different subjects.
'A Nothernerns Guide to Print'
I want the guide to incorporate a northern theme/ style. As I know people from Kendal are very passionate about where they are from and there accents. This will not only keep the students engaged but it will be something they can relate to.
I want the tone of voice to be humorous but have a serious element.
I think the northern twist keeps things fresh, it's not just your average print guide.
As I am aware, the college offered a variety of printing methods, from digital print, to screen print, to etching, to lino printing, mono print etc.
