OUGD505: Study - Build a Brand

Today we were put into groups of three and given a profession. The idea of the session was to create a brand identity for a short presentation tomorrow.

My partners were Danielle Harrison and Daisy Conway.

We were given Electrician as our profession.

We started by mind mapping a few ideas of what type of electrician, uniform, printed ephemera etc.

We called our business/ brand 'PLUG'. We decided that we were going to be an electrical service which provided for housing developers. Our brand colours were yellow green and black, yellow and green are the colours of the 'earth wire' which electricians use. We used railway typeface for the body copy, and Danielle's own type face for the main logo. (All information in the presentation below)

I came up with the name PLUG, and the strap line "Don't shrug, call Plug", and Danielle used her own typeface for the logo.

I was given the task of making posters, van mock ups, uniform mock ups, a business card, a newspaper ad.

First of all we decided upon a colour scheme. We chose an orange yellow initially, and then added a green so that the colours were representative of the 'earth wire', which electricians use:

Bottom right is the one we used:

I went through a few van design before coming up with one which we all agreed on:

I thought the task was really interesting and very beneficial today. It was good to work with people I don't usually work with, and too see how they tackle briefs with the time frame we were given. I think when you're under pressure you definitely come up with the best ideas. I really liked our whole idea that we came up with. It was simple, effective and definitely worked!
