OUGD503: Studio brief 1 - Kendal LockSmith

I took it upon myself to redesign the logo and the website for a local locksmith in my hometown Kendal. I believe both the logo and the website are very outdated.

I wanted to make the design more modern and applicable to the customers.

Here is the original Logo and Website:

Here is the brief I set myself:

So I started first by researching existing Locksmith Logos, as well as logos for all types of work. I looked at the previous website and logo, I got an understanding of the tone voice that they have, and the type of attitude that they work by.

I sketched up some ideas of logos to see where I could take it:

I focused on one idea that I thought was most appropriate and developed it digitally.

The idea was to have the infinity symbol incorporated into the logo, too show their round the clock service. The symbol I wanted to be a key coming back on its self and unlocking a lock.

Once I had an idea of the logo I added a font. I used futura because It's rigid edges were similar to that of a key, It's also big bold and clear. I did try editing the text by changing the 'o' to look like a key unlocking the 'c', but from feedback off friends they said it made the C look like it was an E so I scrapped that idea.

I tried changing the colours, using the colours that Kendal Locksmith already used.

Here is the final logo that I ended up with:

I also mocked up a website (no coding).
