OUGDD403: Alphabet Soup; Typeface.

For my initial ideas i chose two different fonts which i thought both represented Joe. From my research i found there was one half of him which was chilled and there was one half which was quite energetic. I tried to pick a font which i thought was quite ordinary and formal for the chilled half, and one which was quite energetic and informal for the second half.

Here is mind map which illustrates Joe's interests.

These are some initial sketches which i first did to get an idea of where i could take the font. Joe is really into his graffiti so i tried to use a street art style to represent him.

After experimenting with different graffiti styles i decided it was a bit to informal to create into my own font, and it didn't look professional. I picked a selection of two different fonts, formal fonts and informal fonts. Using tracing paper i merged the two different fonts together and it created quite an interesting style.

These are some ideas which i worked with, i tried to make half the letter organized and half unorganized. When i asked my peers which one they preferred they liked the one in the bottom left. This was a mixture of Helvetica and Brushscrpit std.

I experimented with the two fonts which i thought contrasted the best together (helvetica and brushscript). I tried a few different styles, adding drop shadows and drips. When we had the group crit i was told that leaving the font as it was after i had mixed them was the most proffesional option. My group thought that adding the graffiti style made it look a bit too detailed and unprofessional.

I tried Lucida Handwriting instead of Brushscript std because in the crit i was asked to experiment with a different font. They mixed well together but unlike the other two fonts they didn't give off that graffiti style, i think the font was a bit thin to work with the bold helvetica.
